The dog on my homepage is a game now
A static dog turned into a small Three.js runner, mostly as an excuse to play with 3D.
I have two dogs. A corgi who's a rescue, and a rottweiler I got as a puppy. So there's been a dog on this site for a while.
The real ones.
It started as a simple dog box. Then a dog walking a dotted line between sections. Cute, but it didn't do much.
Before. He just walked back and forth.
I wanted it to be something you could actually play with. I also wanted an excuse to try Three.js. So now it's a small game: tap the dog and he runs the path, jumping hydrants, bushes and squirrels and grabbing bones on the way.
He doesn't clear every bush.
He waits for you now.
The first version had him take off on his own. That felt off. You'd scroll down and he was already running, with no hint of when he'd start. Now he sits there, a tap counts down 3, 2, 1, and then he goes. There was also a second line behind the road that looked like another track, so that went too.
Hydrants, a bone, and a score in the corner.
He's not either of my dogs. I made him up. I'll probably change him at some point, but for now he's good.
Three.js is pretty powerful. I'm no expert, but there's a lot of neat stuff you can do with it, and I'll definitely play around with it more. What exactly, I'll figure out as I go.
